RCA turntable 45 trouble
4/20/2006 9:48:25 AMAndrew
I have 1952 Rca turntable D1524802 3speed I installed in my 1947 711v2 it plays on all speeds but it doesnt drop 45s and also it doesnt go far enough over to play 45s The speed is fine it plays once I place the needle on the 45. I have bought three different spindles with the hope it may work including the insert kind .Thanks for your time Andy

Hi Andy
As far as the problem of not going over far enough to play 45's, I assume you mean the tone arm, most turntables have and adjustment screw to allow them too swing over for each size record you play, its usually located under the tone arm at the base, try adjusting this and see if it solves your problem, note howver there may be 2 adjustment screws, one is for the swing, the other is for the tracking force, for how heavilly the needle rides on the record, if your table is so equiped. Now on too the problem of dropping the records, this is done by means of a mechanical slide type lever on the under side of the turntable you will have too remove the table from the housing too gain access too this, once you do I think you will see what mechanism I'm refering too, you can manually put the table into the reject mode and spin the platter by hand slowly, then watch for the mechanism in question,it should ride accross and push up on the spindle spline, the spline itself could be your problem it may be broken off, as far as what is exactly wrong I would not know without seeing it for myself, my guess is it is either slipping or is actually broken, I don't know which in your case. Hope this info helps you out:)

Hi Andy
If that screw didn't make a differnece then that must be the screw for the tracking force of the tone arm, there should be another adjustment screw on the back part of the tone arm assembly, this will be the one you want too try adjusting, let me know if you find the other adjustment screw, or if you could send some photos of the turntable, that would help too.
So the spindle is functioning correctly, you just haven't found the right 45 adapter for it, well, I have an old 45 adapter that I have no use for, if you want I could send it too you, its in good condition, who knows, might just be the one you need, let me know.

Hi Andy
look on the back of the cartridge, is there a brass lug and a silver lug, or as you described a staple looking thing, if so, in looking at one of my old vintage cartridges, the Brass lug would be the negative or braided ground wire connection, and the Silver lug would be the positive wire connection, hope this helps you out:)
