Philco 511

This radio has a post next to the antenna and ground posts marked LOC. It has the same notation in the schematic. ANT. and GND. are no problem but any idea what LOC. is sort for. Take a look at the schematic, it comes off the 115AC side of the transformer ( unswitched) through a cap .015 mF then the post.

If you jumper wire the LOC to the ANT, the power line becomes an antenna. Did this on my 511. Works great. First make sure the .015mF Cap is not leaking.

Thanks Lou. That makes sense. I still have a little way to go to get this 511 running. Rats or field mice got to one of the coils and left a sh*%y mess then ate the insulation off most of the wires. Wiring is done, all recaped, tranformers check out, a little more clean up, rebuild a coil, paint, and polish. Did you manage an original speaker? Mine came with a nice Atwater Kent so it will have to do for now.

Yes I do have a matching original speaker but unfortunately the voice coil is open.
