Hello all, I am having trouble aligning the pointer dial so that it will play the actual frequency that it is being broadcast. Can anyone help?

Assuming the RF has been aligned properly previously.
And assuming the pointer can be "slipped" on the shaft or string.. it should be easy.
Turn the tuner to one extreme the "slip" the pointer to past the last indicator position at end of dial.. usually a horizontal line. Then turn the tunner all the way to the oyher extreme and the pointer should be on the horizontal line at that end. That should be all there is to it. This at least now claibtates the mechanical part.
However if the stations are STILL not properly indicated by the pointer now.. then an RF re-alignment may help.

Adding to what Peter said, RF alignment must be very precise in order to secure precise results. Some radios are impossible to get tracking perfectly across the dial. If you have lots of time to waste, you can compensate on the problematic part of the dial by bending the outermost condenser rotor plates (tuning condenser). Then compensate elsewhere with the normal oscillator/antenna trimmer adjustments (depending on what section you're tampering with). Unless you have much experience (and even then), this may prove to be more trouble than it's worth. I don't really recommend it at all.

Good IF alignment is a key factor in station tracking accuracy, though.

I recently discovered that, if you ever noticed, the outer most plates of the tuning condenser have splits in the plates that are there specifically to allow for you to bend them out or in a little to adjust the tuning/tracking
