Crosley 10-140 Antenna short?
3/11/2006 6:18:32 PMStan L
I have recapped a 10-140 and discovered an apparent short in the loop antenna. It had pulled away from the backboard and some of the flat wires were touching. I tried to 'comb' them straight and secure them with glue, but that didn't seem to provied a reliable fix. Has anyone run into this before? I'm not even sure how to check continuity on the loop as it is hard to tell where it may be touching. The backboard is warped slightly convex from the back and bending it straight does the trick. I would like to keep the radio original but am stumped as to how to fix the loop so it picks up properly.

Usually loop antenna wires have some sort of insulative coating. Not sure of the design of your loop. Usually loops don't have too many turns of wire. You may be able to carefully disassemble the loop down to a few center turns, or at least past the problematic part, and then rewind it. If reception doesn't suffer when the wires touch, then all is well, and should be left alone.
