I cant seem to find a drawing for your set, what tubes are in it?

Hey Greg,

I believe the schematic for the 5G chassis is on this site in resources under Grunow 580.

I was just wondering if it used either a 24a or a 27 detector tube as they tend to sound distorted as compared to a diode detector.

David, The 75 tube is your detector/first audio tube and it is a diode detector, should be nice clean clear audio. Has to be something wrong in what they did in the chassis restoration. That tube line up will give you very good performance and audio output.

Check the capacitor on the plate of the audio output tube. The repairer may have put too high of a value in. Lift one end of it and see what it sounds like. Also check the values of the tone control caps. Try eliminating it from the circuit.
