Hi,I am curious as to just how imporatant it is to use the RMA dummy load when aligning the r.f.stages of a reciever? The person who tried to align my Halli. s-40a told me he never uses it.He also failed to calibrate the radio. Also, can someone tell me in what parallel universe can one find 200 pf. and 400pf capacitors and 400 ohm resistors to make up just such a unit.I can't find these odd values anywhere.I can't locate a 20uh rf choke either. What gives?

I don't think that feeding a dummy load with your signal generator is all that important.
The whole idea is to be able to produse a week RF signal to simulate actual on-air broadcast signal strength/weakness...
I usually just loosly couple the output of my signal generator to the receiver's antenna and keep reducing the signal output while adjusting the tuning.
I don't believe the resistor/capacitor values are very critical.
390 ohm resistors are easily found anywhere..
...and the silver mica 200pf & 400pf caps and others can be found here ( and elsewhere like AES I'm sure) for 89 cents:

lol... please excuse my TYPO... I meant weak signal not "week"..
