I take that the 'front' part of the volume control is the actual pot, and the 'back' part is the on-off switch....
There is a cross-reference manual put out by Mallory, that lists the replacement parts for on-off switch assemblies back into the 1920s. You can look up Philco 70 and find the Mallory number, and the part will either be in another radio you can 'salvage' from, or there is a NOS part available online, or at a hamfest...
I think Philco 70s have a 'paddle' switch that's for 'local' or 'long distance' reception, so try that......
I would look for a 'hotter' type 27 (or is it 24?.....) RF Amp tube before I would 'mess' with the volume pot or antenna coil.....
::not sure which variation of model 70 I have but. is there anyone that sells a replacement on of switch for this?
:: Second question is that I dont get much volume unless I touch the grid cap of the first tube(it will get much louder if I do. which means there is probably an open coil,..or a bad volume pot
:: Third question is.....why do I have a double pot volume circuit and the schematic only shows one?
