my grandfather passed away recently and one of the things he left behind was a CURTIS MATHES STEREOPHONIC MUSIC CENTER- MODEL # 3416A. it has a walnut case with sliding doors on front. any information would be helpful about its worth or year made. thank you.

It is likely quite new, it is a solid state amplifier, correct?. Chances are, that it was made in the late sixties to early seventies. (speaker cloth has a coarse, dark appearance to it?) There were not too many Curtis Mathes items that are sought after by collectors. Sams online does not have it in the system, so I am basing this assesment on their "peak era" of advertising, and what I have been seeing at estate sales.

Valuations are really going to be quite low compared to some of the other contempory brands even, or even compared to the old tube amps. An honest "educated guess", without seeing it, is that it is probably going to be in the price range of as low as $10.00 to only as high as about $40.00. There is not much loyalty to the transistorized sound systems other than the big names of Harmon Kardon, Knight, Pilot,(as well as a number of others) and other lesser but more "audiophile" names like Leak, Bigg, and Craftsmen.

The other thing working against it is the layout. More than likely it is wider as you are facing it, than it is tall. It makes little difference these days how a radio or a stereo sounds if it is wide, unless it had a very serious tube amp.

try to find a chassis number stamped on the back of the tuner. I have just bought the 3025AB and it's chassis number is 25A which would be photofact 576-4. Was looking for the stamp to be in the metal but its just stenciled in ink. Easy to miss as there are several ink stamps on the chassis parts.

Hi John, Sorry to hear of your Grandfather's passing.
Often people ask for information on record playing equipment, refering to them as stereo when they're actually older and mono. Stereo has two channels (left and right) with two separate speakers and would be after 1958 at the earliest. Mono has only one channel, though if it's better than average it might mave more than one speaker, perhaps a large and a small one. If you an give more details, someone may be able to identify it better. List the tubes used, speeds on the record player, radio bands, speakers.
