measuring old mica capacitors

I have many old colour-coded mica capacitors, the values I'm unsure of. Are there multimeters that can sucessfully measure capacitance to values such as 250 mmf?

There are color code charts on the internet. Unfortunately there are several systems, so you'll have to figure out which one is the one each of your condensers uses. Don't throw away the old mica condensers. They're attractive and rather hard to come by. I've thought about making a mold from one of mine, though. Then I could easily mold colored plastic or J-B Weld around ceramic capacitors. ...And then I could paint the appropriate colors on.

Brian: My Fluke 179 DMM measures capacitance down to 1nF = 1000pF. I also have a cheapo Elenco CM-1555 capacitance meter, the lower range of which is 0-200pF.

If the capacitor being tested is leaky, then these digital meters will read high.
