:Got to ask...grandkids not here to help. I've checked what settings I know. I can't figure why the forum pages are big. I have to shift over to view dates. This has happened on and off in the past but cleared up. Been happening long enough. Is it my settings or the web page?

:Bill,
:I am pretty sure it's the web page. I have the same problem. Some of the posts got so many replies that the index just keeps spreading horizontally. Mine is also off the page. Oh, well. It's the end of January and the whole page will re-set on the first of the month. Hopefully, back to normal.

:Hmmm---if the fault was with the web page then it seems that it would look too large for everyone who views it. Right now, on my monitor, the page just fills the screen with no need for a horizontal scroll bar.
:I have seen this problem before though and I think it is indeed related to a setting on each persons own PC. I am determined to find out what causes this and will post any findings...

:Check out this article on SCREEN RESOLUTION SETTINGS.... http://www.learnthenet.com/english/html/06settng.htm
:I played around with changing my monitor's settings (the article tells how) and I could make a web page appear larger and smaller at will. Making the resolution to LOW resulted in a horizontal scroll bar to view a page while setting a higher resolution made the entire page viewable. You have to find a happy medium though. I prefer the appearance of a display set at 800x600 pixels even if I have to scroll an occasional webpage horizontally.....if I set the resolution higher the display is not pleasing to me.

I was using the Firefox browser when I saw Thomas's answer as TOO large horizontally...
But when I switched to the MIE browser all is fine.
It may be that the html code here has left out some 'absolutes' that the MIE browser automatically assumes.. or it could be a deficieny in the Firefox browser.
I have also noticed that whenever I browse or try to select the text entries in the "previous-month" forums, my Firefox browser gives an error message about page not available.. but actually I've noticed the it simply fails to "automatically" include the word "forum" in the address line ( the complete form) whenever Im trying to pick up the previous forum's text... and again when I use the MIE browser it works fine..because it "assumes" you meant to keep "forum" in the address string and doesn't require the html code to specifically specify it... so I don't know how or who should fix it.. but it is a problem with exact vs inexact html coding it seems.
I find that whenever I personally write HTML code for my own webpage I always have to test it thoroughly with at least 3 browsers before I ever try to publish it because ... some browsers.. like MIE assume things and may not reqire exactness.. thus making your webpage look way-off when viewed by other browsers.
1.) MIE.. No extra wide problem displayed
2.) Mozila FireFox .. problem exists
3.) Opera.. No extra wide problem displayed
4.) Netscape.. problem exists
This explains why some of you SEE the problems and some don't.
Because if you are an AOL user you are probably using Netscape... so you WILL see the problem!
and most of the rest of you...
are probably using MIE.... so you will NOT notice the problem.
The webmaster may need to examine the HTML code very closely to determine just exactly where the problem lies.
Peter
Hi Peter,
With MIE I sometimes get quite a few error codes page not found. I just hit back, click again and page comes up unless it really isn't available. But most are false errors for some reason. True, different browsers treat html differently. AOL. I used to have AOL. Always had too many problems with just about anything. Got with a local server and everything got better. Cheaper too.
Bill VA
:OK... I just tested this with four browsers.
