Admiral RC170A

Hi , Just bought a Admiral phono radio combo .Radio works and table turns according to seller .Needed a new project and could not stop myself.I know nothing about phono's yet. This changer is coming without Cartridge or needle. It should have a cartidge that is a rubber type transducer instead of something that might be easy to find. Kind of reminds me of an industrial stain gauge in that it is a variable resistor, or two.Anyway can this sort of cartridge still be found ? Seems like an odd type of cartridge. Can it be replaced with another type ?
And finally is this a practical player to run ? I usually research my purchases better . But this time I am jumping in and hoping for some luck ! Thanks

Hmmm. If this is, indeed, a variable resistance, I question whether a magnetic or ceramic cartridge will work.

Cartridges are seldom listed under the name of the turntable/changer manufacturer.

This guy might be able to help you: http://www.jukn55.com/

Doug , Its an interesting type of device I guess . I got the description from the "resources " on this site .I am not sure how much of that description is technically accurate.I get the feeling you are right that a standard cartridge might not work .I will compare this circuit to one that runs a magnetic or ceramic just to see if there is any similarity .Other than that I will follow your link.If a common cartridge will go in there I would be all set.Like you said the cartridge manufacturer is most likely not Admiral.Without a cartridge I only have the Admiral part number. But least I have some direction to dig in and a link to check out.Maybe some one out there has one of these sets .It is a 7RT41-N with a RC170A record changer. Thanks for the help !
