Chassis Washers

Hi,

Does anyone have a good suggestion of what to use to replace the rubber(?) washers on the sides of the upper chassis on Philco radios like the 37-640, 37-84, etc? These washers keep the bottom chassis from touching the upper chassis metal-to-metal. I have several of these old Philco's and these washers are worn on all of them. They also cause the tuning condenser to ride low where the stem comes thru the cabinet.

Thanks,
Jeff S.

Several years ago I made my own washers. I took a paddle bit and filed down the edges of it. The filed down part was the diameter and depth of the smaller part of the washer. The non-filed part was the outside diameter of the washer. I would drill a piece of hardwood to the depth that represented the total thickness of the washer. I would then drill out the center the diameter of the center hole of the washer and place a dowel in it. Then you coat the mold with mold release compound. Next you fill the mold with rubber potting compound and slap it on the table to remove bubbles. I don't know where you can get these chemicals. You may try varnishing the mold and use silicone for the washer.
There must be a source for these washers somewhere.
