Thank you for the prompt response, Just to answer a few questions- there is a speaker hooked to it. there is an antenna hooked to it. Want you to know that im learning as i go. As far as testing these various parts, i have a good multitester but i am a little ignorant on being able to apply it. Picked up a few so called beginner books, they all tell ya where to start but not how to test. I have a chart that shows me what all the symbols mean(i have the schematic from your site thank you) but cant perform the various tests because of my ignorance. Any help here would be much appreciated. Since my last e i got sound out of it,only on the low side of the tuner. ON the power side (Transformers)the 3 dashpots look like they were fooled with. The 1st 1 arcs out if i touch it and the far box at the same time. none of the rest do this(short?). On the underside of the transformers in the middle ceramic (dashpot, reostat-forgive me) there is this black thing hollow in the middle with a wire winding from one end to the other in between the dashpot and chasis. It looks like it had part of an old wick rapped around it and taped with masking tape. I unwound the tape and wick and found one of the wires it was connected to had several broken strands. I resolderd it and wrapped it with some rubber tape and then electrical and tucked it back in after that i received a few stations like i said down low on the tuner(pretty exciting i thought). I need a real life picture pointing out the various parts, this would make all the difference for me.The volume control seems to work but tyhere is a lack of volume-also fades in and out. I would like to test this particular radio the correct way and will do it one step at a time. Anybody willing to tutor me. Dont know what i could give in return(donation) Im all ears. Eric G

We should be able to help. First we need to identify parts. Believe the hollow black thing is a wire wound resistor. Quite often it has open sections. There will be 5 sections. Resistance values are : 410, 3750, 2140, 205 and 1690 ohms.

You will need to measure these resistors with your multitester. Put the meter on ohms and short leads together. This should cause your meter to zero. Measure each section and see what you get. Doesn't have to be exact but shouldn't be open. Sometimes this resistor is the only problem in a Radiola 17.
