Westinghouse WR-212, Mallory Discrepancy
2/4/2000 12:16:25 PMRich Smardzewski
Recently I acquired a 1936 Westinghouse WR212 table model to round out my triumverate of a WR209 and WR210 in my office. The WR212, unlike the other 2-models, has an eye tube. Upon looking up the WR212 in my Mallory Pre-War Encyclopedia, I noticed the lack of any eye tube. Closest was a 6F5 which is a high-mu triode. Also the tube complement was 1-short. Any explanation for this discrepancy? Also, is there any chance of getting a rudimentary schematic for this model?

I don't have the answer but see what happened in Mallory Encyclopedia. Mallory references Rider 8-9 which is Westinghouse WR211. The WR211 has the tubes shown by Mallory without the eye. Rider doesn't list a schematic for WR212. Could the WR212 may be a WR211 with eye added?

Hi,
Not to confuse matters even more, there were also the aftermarket "add-on" kits too. If the original owner did immaculate work, you would never know.

The mystery deepens...

Hi Rich, I'll email the schematic for your Westinghouse WR212. It covers models WR212, WR212X, WR312 & WR312X. The 6G5 eye tube is shown dotted on the schematic so I think it must be used in some versions only. Can you check your set to see if it's marked WR212 or one of the variations. Hope this helps, Don Black.

Don:
Thanks for the schematics. You're a lifesaver. I did manage to get to the back of this set (it's a real horse) and indeed the label has it as a Model WR-212. Interestingly enough, the tube complements are 5Y3, 6F6, 6K7(2), 6A8, 6F5 and 6H6 but NO eye-tube listed on the label.

Norm:
You may be right in saying that it may be a Model WR-211 with an eye-tube although the cabinets do look quite different...at least what Stein-1 has them depicted as.

Thanks again gentlemen.
