Just found a BSR turntable on a Pannasonic compact

HI

I just moved into a new apartment and the old tennant
didnt have any records any longer so she let me keep this unit. Its a Panasonic compact unit with AM\FM radio equipped with a BSR turntable. I learned a bit in your forum but I want to know more about this unit.
It sounds great but I would like to update the cartridge. I spent hours reaseraching this unit with Pannaonic but they have no records of this unit ever being made. I also want to know if it is a belt drive or direct. It is a 4 speed turntable. BSr had no information on it either

Hi, Sherri Li -

I have a Grundig AM/FM/RP with a 4-speed BSR record changer. It's c. late 50s?

My record changer model is a Monarch UA8. Mine is not a belt drive - it has a pinion that drives a rubber wheel, perhaps 1.5" diameter, which in turn engages the turntable's lip.

Is your set tube-type? If not, you probably have a later vintage BSR. But, if, by chance, it's a UA8, I have a complete set of documentation.

I've had my changer apart because the motor bushings were shot. My original cartridge is a Sonotone and takes a "flip-over" stylus, which is still available from www.needledoctor.com
