Firestone Airchief Radio
1/26/2000 5:25:08 PMDennis Bernhardt
I have had a Firestone Airchief radio for about 15 years. I did not work when I acquired, but I managed to repair it without documentation. It has died again. I found your webpage and believe it to be between 1939 and 1941 since it has the same metal bezel (although dark in color) and knobs on the front but has a slightly different wood case as the S-7403-8.

The case is similar to the model S-7403-8 with 2 bands called American (55-160Khz) and Foreign (5.5-16Mhz). I am unable to find a model number. The only reference I found is what appears to be a chassis number (838391) stamped into the back of the metal chassis.

Can anyone help me as to the vintage as well as where I might find some schematic documentation.

To find the information go to schematics here on nostalgiaair.org. Click on Rider by Original Index, then Firestone and finally your model number. This will get the information for your radio.

Thanks all for the help. I had been looking for info for a while now. This website was a real surprise. By the way the radio works again and it still has most of its Firestone tubes and only very few modern components (no more than 5).

Hi, Not to confuse matters even more, but there were a number of variants that bore a basic S-7398_ model designation. In the Rider's section on this site, including the -5

It is about a 1938 or 1939 vintage.
