I MADE A MISTAKE ON THE RADIO I DISCRIBED. IT'S A MOTOROLA C67 1939. I THINK I FOUND THE ANSWER, CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG. THE LARGE WHEEL ON TOP OF THE TUNNING SHAFT IS DRIVEN BY THIS RUBBER WASHER. THE WASHER IS TO BE IN FRONT OF THE WHEEL. THE SIDE OF THE WASHER IS WHAT MOVES THE WHEEL. SO FAR THIS IS WORKING. BEFORE I HAD THE WASHER UNDER THE WHEEL AND IT WOULD SLIP OFF.

Could be, though having the washer rub against the circumfrence of the wheel sounds like a better traction idea to me than having it rub against the side. Either way will work, but the rubbing against the side causes slipping against both, and wears out the rubber washer. Is the rubber washer still rubbery or is it hard and cracked or otherwise hard?

However, if you push in the knob to do the tuning (like Bill said in your other post), then it may very well rub on the side of the wheel. This sounds logical and is what is done in my Airline tele-dial radio (forgot the model number). You push in this knob with a rubber washer which rubs against the teledial wheel for fine tuning.
