The PT-25 lives!

A couple of weeks ago I requested parts info and a schematic for the fire-gutted Philco PT-25 I picked up recently. Kind reponses from Dennis, Jim and Norm provided the data I needed. I finished the rebuild yesterday, which required replacement of all caps and resistors and all wiring, including transformer leads. The rewiring was somewhat challenging since some of the original had been burned or ripped away. Luckily, this is a very simple circuit, so head-scratching was minimal.

Fortunately, the coils were fine, despite signs of wax melting, the tapped line resistor had survived and, upon first turn-on (with new, properly polarized line cord feeding power), the little radio played perfectly! This set had apparently never been serviced since it still sported its original Philco-branded loctal tubes (except for the standard Sylvania rectifier and audio output devices) and the alignment (such as it is) needed absolutely no touch-up.

The scorched chassis cleaned up nicely and the paint splattered Bakelite cabinet polished out to as-new condition.

Though I usually sell or -- more often -- give away the little All-American Fives I refurbish, I'm going to keep this one. It's. well, cute!

Thanks again for the help, guys!
