To recap or not to recap, that is the question

I have a Philco dual speaker am/fm table radio that has original parts. The radio works well without a trace of hum. Would it still be wise to recap the radio even if it is in working order?

Steve, there is no one answer. This is a post-war set, so a little more modern than some sets.

Eventually, the paper caps and the electrolytics will fail. If you're hep on keeping it all original, then leave it alone and enjoy it. A middle of the road would be to just replace the filter caps and maybe the cap in the final audio output.

If you start replacing anything, play the radio after each component is replaced to detect any errors.

I agree with Doug. Also, by the mid-1950s and early 1960s, components had improved greatly. Paper caps weren't used so much by this time.
