I've come across a quantity of new in box Westinghouse WL-502 A tubes. Common single ended metal envelopes in rather unusual oversized boxes. They are wrapped in corrugated cardboard as were the tubes of the late '20's. What is their purpose? Some sort of VHF or UHF pentode?

The 502A is a thryatron (gas tube). It's similar to 2050 but in a metal can. Information can be found here:
