need schematic and information on wilcox-gay recordio tape player. It's a reel-to-reel and I believe it was made in the late 1940's. Would appreciate any info and or schematic. thanks, Tom

Hi Tom, Your Wilcox-Gray Phono player /Recorder isn't a tape recorder, it's a disk recorder. It was made in 1941 (the date on the schematic is 1-17-40). There were tape recorders in Germany from the early thirties but the rest of the world didn't get them until post war. The schematic is listed here on Nostalgia Air but there are only two pages of information and it misses the schematic. I'll email the information from Riders, as there are several pages I'll send it as three emails to keep the files reasonable size (some ISP's don't handle large files well). Don Black.

Actually, Wilcox-Gay did make a comb reel to reel
78 rpm disc cutter called the recordio. I own one.
Any info on this would be great.

Hi Tom, I believe the information that I posted about your Recordio is correct but you should know the difference between a turntable and reel to reel tape recorder. It's possible that someone has added a tape deck, perhaps replacing the disk recorder when they became obsolete. It might be a complete tape recorder mounted in the cabinet and hooked into the player or perhaps a deck with interface circuitry. If it's a complete recorder added and you can identify it there's a good chance of finding a schematic for it, otherwise you'll just have to trace it out. Don Black.

I too am looking for information on the Recordio. My parents owned a Recordio REEL-TO-REEL tape player I grew up on. I would love to have one. The RECORD PLAYER the other people are speaking of may have the same name, but there is a RECORDIO tape recorder. I has tubes, it's dark gray wood made box, has a green tuning-eye in the bottom lower left front corner, came with a pillow speaker and a mic. The bottome front is metal black with stripes.

I have a Recordio in my small collection; it is a portable in a carry-case with books and mike. I was just starting out to get info and noticed your query. Have you since found out any more? Thanks
