RCA Model 8-T-244 TV 1947
9/9/2005 9:34:47 PMBruce Pollack
Hi,
I,m new to this forum , so please bare with me. I just got this really cool old table top tv from a friend. It doesn't work, but It looks untouched, with the cabinet in good shape. When I powered it up, it blew the 5u4ga rectifier tube. There are two of these , this one is by the transformer. I'm going to a hamfest tomorrow, hopeful of finding a replacement tube. Does anybody out there have any info on this model, like a schematic, etc.?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bruce

RCA 8T244 is in Sam't Photofact #74-8. You should be able to order this information from your local library. Sam's can be reached at 800-428-7267.

Replace electrolytic filter caps before changing your 5U4. They are most likely shorted. Operating a TV with shorted filter caps can damage the power transformer.

YES i would replace all the capacitors and electrolytic capacitors , check resistors , replace any bad or weak tubes and once you have the set running if its like the 8-T-241 you will get a stable and great piccture , if you can't find the sams theres a guy that does copies of sams at resonable prices , he advertises or used to advertise in Antique radio classified .
