My Philco 70 goes through cycles in which the signal and volume are fine, then begin to fade away to nearly zero, then come back strong again. This cycle happens two or three times in a minute. I've noticed that touching the grid of the 1st rf amplifier creates tremendous volume. So much that it overrides the volume control. Any thoughts on what causes this fading cycle?

Lots of things can cause fading. Try to isolate the problem to a stage in the radio.

After touching the grid does radio volume come up for awhile? If so check the grid resistor, #33. It may be open?

Condensers like to have momentary shorts, too. Replace all that are leaky (if not all others, too).
