Hallicrafters 5R34/5R34A Differences
9/2/2005 4:59:06 PMMike
I have this 5R34A that I've recapped and checked the tubes. I can't receive anything on it, BC or SW. The coils are ok as far as shorts or opens, B+ is fine and the voltages on the pins are close to the ones in the schematic. I got a 5R34 schematic from Nostalgia Air but the front end of the 5R34A is significantly different from the 5R34 schematic. There are additional caps and resistors and the BC/SW switch seems to be wired differently. All the soldering and parts look factory, so I don't think it has been modified.

Anyone know where I can obtain a schematic for the 5R34A?

Mike,
You can download a PDF format schematic & service info for the 5r34 from the RESOURCES section of this site. go to http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/828/M0008828.htm

Mike post an e-mail address and I'll send you the schematic as in SAMS Servicer 534. Might be what you need. It's for Hallicrafters Models 5R30A, 5R31A, 5R32A, 5R33A, AND 5R34A (RUN 3). Also SAMS index indicates model 5R34 /A data is in SAMS 170-8. I don't have that.
