Restoring '39 RCA 97K2 Console - Need photos, advice
8/27/2005 8:34:45 PMTom Murphey
I am restoring (99% there!)a beautiful 1939 RCA 97K2 Console. The only piece missing is the surround for the electric tuning pushbuttons. The original bezel is intact, but has a rectangular area slightly indented with square holes for the buttons between two pyramidal structures molded into the front of the bezel. The holes for the buttons are much larger than the buttons themselves, which are somewhat rectangular (vertical) with rounded edges. Each button has a small flange at the base which indicates to me that they would have protruded through something that was an exact fit for the buttons. It looks like this would have been inset into the front of the bezel in the recessed space?

I would love to get a closeup photo of an original bezel with the pushbutton surround in place, so I can replicate it... or even better... does anyone have the missing part for sale? I also have the original parts list, which shows the following parts I would love to locate: (original RCA part numbers)

1. #31456 Cover - 8 protective covers for push button markers.

2. #31589 Marker - 1 set station call letter markers.
3. #31458 Marker - "Dial Tuning" pushbutton marker.
4. #31457 Marker - "Victrola" pushbutton marker.

Does anyone out there have a model 97K2 with the pushbuttons in place you'd be willing to photograph and send me? Thanks in advance!

Hi Tom,
Here is a resource. Once you have a photo try Play Things of the Past at http://www.oldradioparts.com/index.html, He is closed for a move right now. Re-opening around the 15th of October. Send Gary a photo and the information on Model #'s and he may be able to help you.
