Type 24 Tube Settings
8/7/2005 6:06:08 PMLarry Rickard
Sorry for the bogus post.

Does anyone know the settings for a type 24 tube on a Hickok 539-B? Mine seems to have a newer roll chart, and I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

Thanks in advance,
Larry

Larry,
What you seek is probably on a suplimentary tube test data list for "obsolete tube types". I am assuming you want to test a 24A. I have a 752A and the data for obsolete tubes. However, the settings may not work for your model tester. I looked at this great site and could not find much on the 539B http://www.0wned.org/~hstraub/testerdata.htm

This site sells them for $15, however someone on this site may have the required settings or a copy.

If you decide to purchase one ask first if the 24A is listed.

Good Luck!
Jeff

Hi

You sould be able to make settings to test a #24. A #24 is similar to #36 except reduce filament to 2.5 volts.

If you don't have settings for that tube try making your own. Filament 2.5 volts. Filament pins J - R. Don't have a tester in front of me but it's something like this. First dial after filament is cathode. Cathode would be "4". Next is grid #1. Set this to the last position for top cap. Plate knob "2". Screen "3". These are pin numbers same as marked on the tester dials. Leave the other one on zero. Like I mentioned doing this without looking at the tester so be sure to read markings on your 539.

Grid bias can be 3 volts. Look up 6J7 and set other controls, not pins which were set above. After doing this a few times you will quickly be able to make your own settings.
