Looking for a 117.24 Ballast Tube???
1/8/2000 12:30:05 AMRich Smardzewski
I'm starting to fix up my FADA 790 AM/FM & noticed that it contains a 117.24 ballast tube. I'd like to order a spare but am having a hard time locating a source for this animal. Most of the online tube emporiums don't list such a tube & my RCA RC-20 manual doesn't list it. Anyone ever heard of this tube?

Hi Rich, If you go to Antique Radio Online at http://www.antiqueradios.com/ then click on "Articles" there's a lot of data on Ballast tubes and their ratings and equivalents. Also AES at www.tubesandmore.com have Ballast tubes and substitute types, you could email of phone them to see if they have a suitable type, say the number and set make and model. I think you should be able to get a suitable unit OK. Good Luck, Don Black.

I checked in my tube substitution manual could the marking on the tube be 117Z4 instead of 11724? The book shows on substitute fro this tube. Hope this may help.

Hi

Checked the Ballast Tube Handbook. The 117.24 was only used in the Fada 790. It has a voltage drop of 31 volts @ 300 ma. The base drawing shows the resistance is between pins #3 and #7 with a tap on pin #8.
