I have just aquired a Zenith radio that seems to be frim the early 1940's. It is in good shape and the model number is 6-G-501-M. If you can give me any information on this radio I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Linda Mann

Linda,
Your Radio's schematic is posted on this Nostalgiaair site. Paste in this address in your browser. http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/123/M0025123.pdf
You will will nead adobe reader to view the schematic. The radio was produced in early 1941. It is an A/C + Battery portable and according to the "Guide To Old Radios" by Dave & Betty Johnson, the value in "good" condition is $30-$50.

Definitely from about 1940, this is one of the precursors to the famous Trans-Oceanic portables, although the 6G501 is Broadcast only, no shortwave coverage. Usually covered with striped woven aircraft cloth and with a leather handle (if it has survived the years since production), and has the old "horseshoe" antenna in back. Many examples are now missing their front covers because it was designed to be detached.
