Philco Radio chasis model 38

Hi, I just purchased a Philco radio. It is a chasis model
38, with a 7 pin din connector cord. The code listed is
121, the lable has no model number, but the small schematic on the inside of the cabinet has 5 tubes listed
and the numbers 39-3236.According to the green label on
the guts, it says this radio is a battery radio? It was
sold with the note on it "needs new power cord" Even if I
can addapt the din pin connector, shoul I plug it in? The
tubes are types, 19,30, and 32. I also checked the speaker
connection, it is a 4 pin din connector. Can anyone tell
me what year is correct for this unit, also is it actually
a battery operated unit? what volt? 12? Any related info.
would be appriciated.
thanks,
Mic.

Whoever put the note onto the radio that said that it needed a power cord probably had no clue as to how the radio operates (someone not at all familiar with radios, as many antique sales people are including those on eBay). You can convert the radio to AC, but this makes the radio not original. A battery eliminator can be found at www.tubesandmore.com for a moderate price. If you can find a female Din connector, you can attach this to the battery eliminator. Otherwise you may need to remove the original Din connector and splice the wires directly to the eliminator. You should restore the set electronically before powering it up, however. Basic repairs would be replacements of all condensers, and of all drifted resistors, and possibly of any weak or burned out tubes.

Hi Miccey

Here is information for your radio.

Like Thomas mentioned, don't plug it in. It is a battery only radio & will need a power supply to operate. Voltages can be found on the schematic.
