General Electric H77 Radio

The above radio is about to drive me nuts. The circutry appears to be ok, the various voltages are as they should be. My problem---when I plug the radio in I get the local radio station regardless of where I have the station selector. Not only that, I get it with absolutley no antenna. What have I overlooked?

Hi Ernie

Check the oscillator circuit around your 6SA7 tube. When the oscillator doesn't operate sometimes a radio picks up one strong station. Only volume will change by tuning.

When the oscillator operates pin #5 will be several volts negative. If it's not check voltages on the 6SA7 and continuity of the coils. Try another tube even if it tests ok.

Norm,
Thanks for the advice, I tried it and it didn't solve the problem so I must have something else wrong.

I can't tell too much from the schematic, but you need to check L1. This very same symptom I've noticed when a wave trap got messed up bad on similiar GE set I have. My problem could be something else tho as I haven't devoted any more time to check it. Ticked off because I messed it up, careless. Set will set until I can get over it. I'm moody sometimes nowadays.
