You don't describe why you need a replacement speaker for your radio. If the problem is merely a damaged speaker cone, then there are companies who can replace it with a new cone. Antique Electronics sells replacement transformers. If the field coil is shorted, rewind it with the same size wire, using methods similar to rewinding a transformer. Because, other than tubes, transformers and a few small parts, replacement components are no longer manufactured for these old sets, conservation methods need to be employed. Rebuilding is an option that is almost mandatory. If you have the original part, give it a shot because there is really nothing to lose. If the component is entirely missing, good luck finding another one. -Bart

Euro Laser Bruxelles 200105 REG: GE Speaker

David,

Thank you for your posting in regard to our request for a 15" replacement speaker for our 1937 GE model E-155 console.

During transit from the USA to Belgium, both the chassis and speaker came loose.
The speaker now has two long tares in the cone.

I have contacted a number of reconing companies in the USA but it turns out that they adapt another more modern cone and do not have an original.
We would like to keep this set pristine and either replace the speaker with a good one or find someone who can duplicate the old cone.

The speaker mounted output transformer (Push Pull 6L6) was replaced with a Thordson "Universal" output transformer of very light duty,
looks to be about 10 watts capacity. This is the reason we would like to find a replacement speaker with the original output transformer mounted.

I would appreciate any help you can provide in finding an original replacement speaker and output transformer.

By the way, this is the largest radio GE made during the 30's, 15 tubes, coloramic tuning, coverage from 140 kHz to 70 MHz in 5 bands,
with unusual AFC system, yes AFC on AM and the cabinet is in excellent condition.

Thanks again for your response.
