Philco 42-1003 Volume trouble
12/22/1999 10:35:18 PMJason Candelora
Hello!

I plugged in this Philco radio and It gave no sound at all. So, I removed all of the tubes to test them, I found all of the tubes ranged from 90-100%. Except for one of the 50L6GT's I replaced it with a good tube, and put it all back together. I now get sound but I can only hear it if I put my head up close to the speaker! It has no volume at all! I mean it tunes in quite a few stations but it is not any where near loud enough to listen to. There are no wires broken that I can see...I do not have any idea what is wrong.\

Thanks for any Input!

Hi Jason

Can you measure voltages? Pins #3 and #4 on the 50L6 must be positive. Pin #5 must be near zero and NOT positive. Pin #8 should be around 8 volts positive.

Pin #2 of the 7C6 must also be positive but not as high as the 50L6 readings.

Do you hear a loud hum when you touch the volume control terminals?

Norm
