RE: Volume Control

Hello!

I'm trying to find out who the manufacturer of the volume control was for the Atwater Kent Model 55C, it is a dual type control, with the wire wound portion being 6K Ohms and the Carbon being 10K Ohms, the original one I have is as best I can tell bad, does anyone have any info on this, and would their be a way of fixing the old control, IE cleaning it etc... ???

What is wrong with the old control? There are ways to rewind the wire portion, and as for the carbon portion, if it is not badly worn, but is noisy, sometimes the slider can be moved to the outer portion of the carbon, which is unused, and this may solve some trouble. Coat the carbon and the wire with a very fine coating of di-electric grease. If the control is badly damaged, you will have to go for a replacement. Sadly I do not know of anyone who rebuilds these controls. Someone ought to, hey?

Hi Mark,
I suggest you contact Mark Oppat, who as far as I am concerned is THE ultimate expert on potentiometers.

Mark may be able to rebuild this pot for you, or he might have a replacement in stock. You can also do a google advanced groups search using the keywords "Mark Oppat pots" to find some excellent advice posted.
