Crosley 51 Questions

I picked up two Crosley 51's on (GASP) Ebay last week.
They have different front panels and tube set ups. One has the selector switch on the top and the other has it on the bottom of the front. In addition the one with the one on the bottom requires (because of space limitations from the AF transformer) very small tubes that look like WD-11's but are small 199's. They fit into some sort of adapter that plugs into a regular
socket for that tube. Anyone able to enlighten on the significance of the differences ? I assume they are different production runs.
PS One worked right out of the box. (All the way to 160 meters!) The other needs a little TLC.

Hi Carl

There are different versions of the Crosley 51 in Collectors Guide to Antique Radios, 51, 51A, 51S and 51SD. They all should use 2 - 201A's or 2 - WD12's. Adaptors were made for 99's so they could be used in the larger 201A sockets.
