Realistic pro 4 7 patrolman scanning receiver

where can i get a scymatic or pictoral veiw repair manual for this unit. Any information would be greatly apreceated. as im very limited in financial resources and would like to have a scanner

On the older units, there was sometimes a schematic pasted inside of the cabinet. If there is not something there, go the Radio Shack site and look up the "Support" pages, as they do have most of their manuals online. If there is no schematic online, you have to wing it as no one else made those schematics available.

Some of the basic things to check if unit is not working is to make sure the plug is in good condition (I had one broken at the plug and the strain relief). Check for voltage at the rectifiers (which can fail), as well as the filter caps (which also fail with regularity) and then past the voltage regulator.

If there is voltage present, and it still does not work, is the squelch control functional? Unit will not scan if it has no crystals, or no frequencies entered into memory, or if the squelch is misadjusted too low (adjusted too high it will never respond to anything but a very close signal)and a faulty control will act the same way.
