:I just took possession of a very clean (but inop) little Philco portable, both AC and battery capable. The chassis and case are clearly marked with ink and paper labels as a model E-678. I even have the owners manual for it, printed in 1956. The radio is brown leather covered with a wood speaker grill, leather handle and a little door that covers the knobs and dial when transporting. It is a two band radio with AM and police/short wave. The band switch is on the right side of the radio. I'd like to get schematics for it so that I can repair it but Sam's does not list a model E-678 and although every major part is marked with a part number, there seems to be no chassis number. Can anyone help me?
Thanks Poston,
Regarding the E-600 series, did you happen to see a picture of the radio case? If so, did it resemble the description I gave? If no exterior view is shown in Sam's, the most obvious interior part is a large ferrite antenna (about 9" long) running horizontally along the back of the chassis and positioned above all the other components. Appreciate the help
Steve

::Hi Stephen,
::I looked through my SAMS Photofact index and I agree, no model E-678 is listed. But Photofact #346-8 covers Philco models E-670, E-672, E-675 and E-676. It was issued in 1957, which would be consistent with a 1956 model radio. Maybe this Photofact would cover your E-678, or at least be close?

::Bill,
:Thanks for the link. That's not radio I have either, could it be that it was marketed only in Canada, Britian or some other English-speaking country? All of the text is in English and the manual is printed in the USA. This is Wierd!
