Will capacitors from Radio Shack work for tube radios.

Most likely not. The capacitors that Radio Shack carries are not high enough in value, voltage or capacitance wise, to use as replacements in tube radios.

Radio Shack normally carries a very small variety of 500 volt disc capacitors. These will work fine in your radio. They carry .047, .01, .0047, and .001 MFD values, and perhaps some other values. They also carry capacitors that are similar to the Sprague orange drop capacitors in the .01 MFD value, at either 200 or 500 volts. I forgot which voltage it is.

If you are in a bind, you can purchase the above values and parallel them in various combinations. Since I have two Radio Shacks by my house and I am impatient, this is often what I do in the short run until I order capacitors. Be sure, when you purchase capacitors from Radio Shack, that they are of the proper voltage rating you require. It is easy to accidently purchase their 50 and 100 volt capacitors (and other values). Amazingly one time I had a real find. This is not a frequent occurrance at all. They had, mixed in their electrolytic assortment packs, 200 volt electrolytics!!!!!!!!!! They were just the right values for what I was working on, too (an AC-DC radio). Most of the time their electrolytic assortments are only of the low voltage variety.

Hi Dave

You might want to check this site:

http://www.justradios.com/

He will make up a capacitor kit for specific radios.
