Lafayette F62
12/11/2004 5:08:38 AMAndrew McIntyre
I bought (a few years ago) Lafayette F62 console, floorstanding receiver. Valve line up 3x 42, 3x 6D6, 75, 76, 5Z3. The rear metal label on the chassis states manurfactured by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA). What I am looking for is a circuit of this receiever. As I live in South Africa I am not overtly keen to buy a circuit off the internet before trying to get a free download, Thus : is there an RCA equivalent or similar receiver of the F62 which I could download of Nostalgiaair's Rider's datasheets? I have restored the receiver - its working fairly well but I elieve the performance will be improved with a comp[lete re-alignment etc.
Any help apreciated!

Are you sure that it is actually manufactured by RCA? Probably 90% or more of the receivers, including some fairly generic ones like my General Television portable, have a label in back that says that the superheterodyne circuits within the radio are licensed by the Radio Corporation of America and the Hazeltine Corporation. RCA and the Hazeltine Corporation, and I have no clue as to what the latter is, had the licenses on the superheterodyne circuit, which, to this day, is the predominant circuit used in radio and television. If you remember back in the late 1920s, RCA had a very expensive line of superhets that they could keep their price on because noone else could manufacture such a set without obtaining a license from RCA. Thus most other manufacturers stuck with the TRF circuit, which is a far more "high fidelity" circuit, but takes more components to get the same sensitivity and selectivity of a superheterodyne circuit. Eventually RCA lowered its price for various reasons that I do not remember.

Anyway, your radio may be made by either RCA or Lafayette. Check to see exactly what that label says. I thought Lafayette made their own sets, but I could very well be wrong.

If noone on here can get you a Rider's page for this radio, you can try www.tubesandmore.com. They will sell you a fine copy of your schematic for a very low price. They also have a lot of the parts you may need for any future repairs to this or other radios you may own. Nostalgia Air might just not have your schematic loaded onto their site yet. When I first discovered this site, most of the radios I own were not on here. Now every one is on here. For a while even my 630TS television was on here, but now I can't find it for some reason. If you obtain your schematic from another source, you may also want to offer a file copy to Nostalgia Air for them to post on this site.

Yes, states that its manurfactured by the Radio Corporation of America (and incidentally also licensed under their patents) for Lafayette. You should remember that this is an Export model to SA with a single voltage tap on the mains transofrmer for 230volts.

Gentlemen,

Didn't Radio Wire Television have a Lafayette line? Or was Lafayette Radio Radio Wire Television before? Under the listing of Radio Wire Television on this site there is a listing for a model F62. Perhaps this is the information that is needed.

Hay now, true that! It even has the same tube line-up! I think we have a match! Perhaps this is the radio you're looking for!

There even are tune-up instructions. Good luck reading the schematic, though!

THANK YOU. That is the one. It also decsribed why one of the bands was insensitive - I had to rewind on of the RF coils - Rust had got in and destroyed the wire.

Thanks again - that concludesd two years of searching.
