Type marking on MicroMold is a 342 is this a unique code to values or just a case number. A physically similar cap that I read as a .05 green black orange with yellow dot is marked as a 345.
Also power filter caps (two element cap package) are rated at 150 volts and 24/15mf with red and black leads. Any idea which is red and which is black. they are on either side of the speaker field with one connecting to chassis and the other to the 35z5 rectifier tube. Both are hooked to chassis, although scemaitc shows another unspecified Cap c16 at the cassis ground symbol. holder for the dual cap is rivited to the chassis so I suspect this is an original configuration
Chassis is a majestic 1S49 used in their Model 921 "Melody Cruiser" rider 14-2 Majestic.
Finally, they use the rigging for the antenna, however the pattern on mine doesn't look anything like the cover of Johnson's Guide to old Radios. HIs would appar to be a split diode (two branches connected at the middle), while mine is just a single jumble of wires hooke together over the rigging - is suppose making a 1 foot diameter loop as the shortes electircal path.
Thanks for any help. Dave G
The electrolytic should have red leads for positive and black negative. I would replace the two sections with 22 mfd @ 160 volt caps. The positive ends go toward the choke and both negatives to ground.
Your cap in series with the antenna is .01 mfd. It protects the radio if someone has the plug reversed (chassis hot)and happens to connect the antenna to ground.
Richard has some information on nostalgiaair but it's almost impossible to list everything about these caps. There are caps with 3, 4, 5 and 6 dots. Not all dots in the same place have the same meaning however most used the standard color code.
I wouldn't try to change the look of your antenna coil. Not everything shown in books is original.

: Have a MicaMold cap that I cannot accuratly read colors on and it is not listed as mica in schematic. It connects antenna to antenna coil and should be a .01 400v Tubliar according to schematic. Borwn black and orange are distinct posibilities. In the nostalgia air Standard RMA colors section you do not menton types with three lower dots and one upper dot, nore type designaton for specific brands like Mica Mold. I assume upper dot is voltage and a yellow dot would be 400v. This would agree with scematic which calls it out as a tubliar.

My question is that since it is a single point wire to the AM radio with no ground attachment to make a loop, is there a preference in the stringing. Ie one long single strand wire or a single wire that branches into 2 or more branches. the picture in Johnson looks like the former.
Norm do you have a setting for a 300b for a eico 666 tester? Thanks for the help. Us amatures realy appreciate your help (we can't spell very well without a spell checker either). Dave G

You can set up the Eico 666 to test 2A3 and increase the filament voltage to 5 volts for your 300B.
Just use two caps of the same value to replace the two section electrolytic. Then you don't need to worry about red & black positive wires.
If your radio uses the loop as an antenna coil then it's winding is critical to the radio operation. You may be better off using another antenna coil. If it's strictly an antenna anything that looks nice will work.

: Norm - the multi electolytic cap I have has the two leads coming out one end - one red and one black - with the single Ground coming out of the other end. Will replace with a 24/24 when and if can find. .01 mica capacitor I was referring to is between the antenna and the antenna coil and is the one that is supposed to protect the antenna (and me)from getting a shock if the Ac/dc is backwards. I was not planning to screw with antenna coil (transofmer) as it is called on unit, but was wundering how I should thread the antenna, since I know mine is wrong. Looks like someone had a bunch of copper stranded wire and tried to make it look like a real ship - after looking at it the effective area is only about 2 inches since the mast base and lead are only make about a two inch loop. the antenna schmatic looks like a pitchfork rather than a coiled antenna like shown on others.
