My 1952 RCA Radio/Phonograph/TV console has 2 problems I'd like to correct.
The first is concerning the sound when using the TV. With the TV on, I switch the selector on the amp to TV. I can then hear the television audio but also get a very loud and nasty feedback noise.
The second problem is with the phonograph. The sound output is very low even with the volume knob turned to the max.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If the unit has a separate TV chassis, make sure that the TV audio wire is not too close to the speaker or output tubes. If you can connect this cable to another external amplifier (such as your stereo), and you still get this squeal, then the trouble is likely in the television chassis, itself. You can also try hooking something like a portable CD player, set at about 6 or 7 volume level (0 to 10 scale), to the television audio input on the amplifier unit, and see if this sounds any better. Also make sure that the shielding on the audio lead from the television set is in good order. Make sure that both leads are secure and are properly working.

Same holds true for the phonograph. If the CD player works well, then your salt crystal cartridge has likely swollen or cracked. I guess someone said the site is www.west-techservices.com, for rebuilding and replacing phonograph cartridges. You can also find various types on eBay. Search under all of the words you can think of that may bring you to a phonograph cartridge. www.tubesandmore.com also has other sources for cartridges. Order their catologue or just check out their site.
