Hi Jim

Don't know what you consider cheap? AES, www.tubesandmore.com has them for $9.90. Check under resources here and you might find a 1629 for less?

You may even be able to find an appropriate oscillator coil at www.tubesandmore.com. Check the wiring of your's. Their "universal" slug tuned unit will probably be able to tune in the 455 KC range. I bet you could find the broken wire on the old coil, though. Those EICO signal generators are very easy to come by on eBay. You could probably find another just like it and take parts from it.
