How old is this Dominion-Electrohome?
11/27/2004 8:34:00 PMTom
Hi,

I am trying to determine the age of my late Grandfather's antique radio, which we have owned for over 15 years.

Description:
--------------------
From its rear small metal plate:
Chassis Model - 941E
Serial No. - 186675
Cycles - 25-60
Volts - 115
Watts - 30

A product of
Dominion-Electrohome Industries Ltd.
Kitchener, Ontario

On the front of the radio, right below the single rotary dial, it says "Viking" in big bold lettering. I gather this is the descriptive name for this model?

From web searches it appears that Dominion-Electrohome made the Viking model (or series?) for the Eaton's department store chain?

There appears to be 3 tubes in total within this backless wooden radio.
--------------------

The radio is definitely non-functional and we are not interested in repairing it (sorry). We just have this on display for sentimental reasons. It'd be interesting to know when this radio would have been made, if possible.

Thank you for any info that you can provide.
Tom

Your radio was made by Dominion Electrohome in Kitchener Ontario and was made for Eatons department Stores under their "Viking" label.

It should have 4 tubes and was made in 1939-40.
