Help Identifying a Philco
11/6/2004 11:07:34 AMChristopher Rose
I picked up a Philco Radio/Phonograph that I'm trying to restore and am looking for some help Identifying the model number of this unit. I have founs LOTS of numbers inside the unit, problem is none of them relate to a philco model number! I think I have th eunit naild down to a 53 model. I have seen it in framed ads for sale on ebay that came from 1953 magazines. It is a model that looks like a small coffee table. Evidently it was advertised as a model you could put a TV set on later! It has two leaves that fold up on the sides with spring loaded props on hinges. The tuning window is on the top of the unit and the knobs are 2 on the front. The phonograph is on a drawer that slides out and the speaker is in the front of this drawer. It appears to be a 5 tube super heterodyne receiver that picks up AM and police bands.(OK the old police bands anyways.) The tubes are from left to right 50Y7GT, 35L6GT, 7C6, 7B7, 7A8. I am hoping to find a schematic on this model if it is available as I want to do the chasis restoration myself. I'm also curious if there is a source where I can get a phono cartridge either as a replacement for this unit or have the one on it rebuilt. Any information you gusy can help me with is greatly appreciated!

Hello
My brother has a Philco just like you describe. But we do not have any info on it.
Have you found any info?
His radio section works real well, but the phonograph does not.
If you get any info would you share?

Thanks
John

Christopher, you have a Model 53-1750. Do a search and you should come up with a picture. The SAMS is 203-7. Once you get the SAMS it should tell you the needle/cartridge and possible substitutes...maybe. Search the web for phono cartridges and you will get some vendors. If not, post again. Good Luck.
