Hey guys
Is there a substitution for the 1L6 tube in the Zenith Trans-Oceanic B600? Thanks

You can try a 1U6 as substitute. It has the 7DC basing. Click on Tubes on this website and enter the tube type for more info.

Hi

You can try a 1U6 but be sure to add a resistor across the filament before turning the radio on. A 1U6 will burn out on turn as it has a lower current filament.

In Zenith T/O's a 1R5 will work for broadcast band. It won't oscillate on higher short wave frequencies. If you are bringing up a T/O best to use the 1R5, much lower cost than a 1L6.

Other tubes such as 1LA6 and 1LC6 can work but req

Hi John

A 1U6 draws .025 amps at 1.4 volts, While a 1L6 draws .05 amps. When using a 1U6 you must draw another .025 amps with the resistor.

1.4 volts divided by .025 amps = 56 ohms. A resistor around 56 ohms should be added across the filament, pins #1 and #7, of the 1U6.

Thanks Norm. I will try this, if it is found that I need to buy a new tube.
