DAY FAN A-5005
9/29/2004 2:56:47 PMMarvin
Hi,
I purchased a Day Fan Model A-5005. It needs some restoration work done on it. All of the hardware is present & accounted for, but the wood case is what needs the work. I have not tested it to see if it works, but it appears to have all of the Tubes still inside. My question would be, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAL WHAT A RESTORED DAY FAN MODEL A-5005 IS WORTH TODAY? I KNOW THAT BACK IN THE LATE 20's WHEN THEY WERE FIRST MADE THEY SOLD FOR ABOUT $260.00 WITH THE TUBES INSIDE. I HAVE NO IDEAL WHAT 1 WOULD BRING RESTORED IN TODAYS MARKET. I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHETHER IT IS WORTH RESTORING OR NOT. PLEASE REPLY & LET ME KNOW. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ONE OF THIS MODEL ANYWHERE ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET WORLD. ARE THEY REALLY RARE?

When one restores radios, he should be restoring the radio for his own personal enjoyment because he likes the radio for some particular reason, not because the radio is worth a lot of money.

Hi,
I didn't mean to offend you in such a way. You must have a lot of love & time to offer a radio. I do understand your statement about the appreciation & love is the only reason for restoring radios. Please do not take offense to this, but "YOU ARE WRONG". Please tell every collector/dealer that they should not restore a radio unless it is for their personal collection to cherish & love. I love them all, but unfortunately it can become expensive buying fixer-ups and investing in their restoration. I only asked the questions for the purpose of determining if I should purchase 1 of these models in original working condition to save money. PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING ABOUT ME! WE'VE NEVER MET. I do respect your passion for the field. I also respect your opinion & knowledge. I am not an expert in this field, so I depend on kind intelegent people such as yourself to help in my development in this field.
