West Tech Services

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to "heads up" everyone on the issue of West Tech Services. Well, that was a wonderful place to get a lot done for your phonograph, from idler wheel resurfacing to needles and cartridges. The old guy passed away several years ago, though. Antique Electronics Supply still lists the company in their catologue, oddly enough. The bad part is that the number still works, and when you call it, you get family members who get very sentimental and sad when you ask for the company, and they explain that the owner is dead. I told this to Antique Electronics Supply, and they said they regret their misinformation, and even gave me the names of some other great places, but they still put his number in their catologue for some odd reason, even though they said that they'd take it out. Anyway, unless there are some crazy people answering the phone at West Tech Services, assume the guy is dead and that the company no longer exists. You can try calling the number if you wish, but it seems you just upset whoever answers.

Hi Thomas

Someone may have taken over West Tech Services?

The latest number in AES catalog is 304-349-2149. (West Virginia) Last year they had a different number (TN). Before that there were others.

Believe someone is still operating under the name?

Norm

.........must be. Whenever I've called them--once about a year ago, and then once two years ago, they said it was out of business, and that people kept on calling anyway. They said they wished people would stop calling. With all the calls they got, they must have decided to keep it running.

I think they are still in business, they stil have the web site going..., speaking of phono cartridges, does anyone have any knoledge of old crystal cardridges? I just wanted to experiment and see what it takes to rebuild these , does it require special equipment or what does a cartridge have in it (cyrstal I mean) I know how magnetic work , when you say crystal do they mean like from a old cyrstal radio???, I have read some use some type of salt?
