I have not been able to get rid of a 60cycle humm.
I have gone through all the caps I figure would be the
filters and replaced all questionable ones.

I don't know if it related but I am unable to receive any
signal at this time either

Any Ideas?

If anyone would have a schematic I would be ever so grateful
for a faxed copy or purchasing the original?

Thank You

If you replaced the larger value electrolytics, did you possibly remove one of the cathode connections? Especially if the ground for the filter caps is/are attached to a tube cathode/ground? Possibly it was a poor solder connection on a tube cathode, especially in the IF stage, detector stage, or first audio stage.

Also just double check "lead dress" to make sure something is not shorted.

Hi Rick, I've sent the schematic and service data for your Rogers Majestic R229. Check that you have disconnected the original electrolytic capacitors and connected the common earth of the new ones to the same common negative line as the originals, not the chassis. This set has a tapped speaker transformer for hum bucking. Try shorting the grid of the 50L6GT across R12 and see if the hum stops. If it doesn't it's coming from the output stage, if it does it's an earlier stage. Switch to phono with the phono socket shorted, if it stops then it's coming from the receiver section, if not from the AF amp. (14B6). Check the voltages against the schematic, that might show something. It could be heater cathode leakage. You'll have to find which stage is causing it and then find the particular fault. Make sure there aren't any poor earth or solder connections. Let's know what you find and I'll try and help more if you've still got problems. Good Luck, Don Black.
