Philco model 89 I.F. problem
7/31/2004 12:13:46 AMElton
Found no plate voltage to the 77 tube , traced back to the IF and found open, i took apart to see if easy fix , but alas it must be internal, this coil is very small about 1/8 tall and wide, apears to be wound on a wooden dowel? The bottom winding is OK the top one is bad, 1st question, is it repairable? if so what size wire should be used? and how do you know when you have enough wound needs to be at 55 ohms is it a possible fix? or should I use the set as a boat anchor?, Any help on winding or suggestions is apreciated.
Thanks

Hi Elton

Your radio uses a 260khz IF transformer. Takes a lot of turns of wire. Here is a list of available IF Transformers from PTOP:

Here is another way to get your radio working. Connect a 22k resistor across the open winding. Next connect a 220pf cap from input to output side of the transformer. This will allow the stage to operate.

Norm, the resistor and cap sounds a heck of a lot easier to do, I will try and let you know how it works
Thanks

Norm , followed your idea with the resistor and cap and the old girl is back in operation,
Thanks for your help
