Problems with 1967 Mustang Radio Model F7TBZ

Hello All,
AM is fine. However FM is just a Hisssssssssssssss. But it wont tune in a station. Where should I look. If I touch L4 or C19 it gets quiet but I still cannot tune anything. The emitter of Q2 is 1.1 volts instead of .9 volts. There is .9 volts on the emitter of Q3.
I can hear a change in the hissssssss when the antenna terminal is touched or an antenna is hooked up (the hissss gets louder). It's more of a chhhhhhhhhhh than a hissssssssss.
Where should I start to look?

Thanks,

Dave...

Hi Dave

In this case I would check the oscillator circuit. FM being a higher frequency will stop operating first. The transistor may have just stopped operating.

Transistor radios use many electrolytic caps. They dry out over time and may need replacement.

Norm,
I was just looking over the schematic again. I see that AM wouldn't be working if the FM RF amp and FM mixer weren't working because the signal has to go through those transistors before getting to the AM transistors. There may be a problem getting that FM front end board of without disturbing the tuning coils. I have transisitors. So I will try replacing the Oscillator.
I don't like working on transistor sets but sometimes I have to.

Thanks,

Dave...

Norm,
This radio has a total of three electrolytic capacitors. The FM oscillator circuit has disc capacitors in it and no electrolytic capacitors. I removed all the screws that hold in the FM front end board but it wont move. It probably takes a ton of de-soldering to get the board off. Maybe I can solder in the new transistor from the top and replace the components from the top. I know this might not be the right way to do it. But it will take hours to get all that stuff off just to replace a transistor.

Norm,
WOW! It's working now. I replaced all three transistors on that board because it "seemed" like it would be a big deal to get the board off. It wasn't.

Thanks very very much again.
