Hi

Try settings for 6SK7 or similar tubes. The 717A is made for higher frequencies but similar. This tube was surplus after WW2 and used by amateurs in radio receivers in place of 6SK7's.

:Tried to test it with 6SK7 settings and get a "shorts" reading on positions 2,3,4,5. I looked again at the pinout of the 717A and it appears as though pin 3 is connected to the suppressor grid as well as the cathode. Pin 5 is connected to the cathode as well. Any other ideas or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help. Paul

Hi Paul

Use the pin setting for 6SG7. This one has the same basing (8BK) . In most circuits the tubes are used with pin 3 and 5 tied together like is already in a 717A.

:Norm- pin settings for 6SG7 worked fine. Thanks very much for the recommendation. Even though these are NOS tubes, I was concerned because one tube's getter flashing was quite dark (almost black) compared to the other which has a nice silvery color. Fortunately both tubes tested the same. Thanks again, Paul, Providence, R.I.
